MIRRORS

I knocked on the door at exactly the discussed time, he opened up immediately as if he had been waiting behind it for some time, we started our sunday routine.
  "hi..is she home?"
"nope", he smirked and let me in.
************
"when are you going to introduce us to this your mysterious lover?", Ada said. She has always been the curious and impatient one.
"he's really good for you, see as you are glowing, radiating happiness", Tolu added as she pinched my cheeks. I chuckled and slapped her hands away.
We were all in my condo at magodo. It was 5pm, we were done with our respective jobs for the day and decided to hang out. During my university days i had worked in a reputable bar so i knew how to mix a mean cocktail.
I stood up from the couch and walked to the mini bar, my drink was running low, Ada followed me and as i turned to pour a non-alcoholic mix for her from the flask i told her i had my reasons for keeping them in the dark. She smiled at me and said she trusted my judgement,"there's no hurry take your time".
**************
The girls had gone to their husbands, i was the only one in our trio that wasn't with a ring on her finger but i wasn't worried because i had something better. The lyrics of justin timberlake's "mirrors" rang through the apartment. Blood rushed to my face as i hurried to pick his call, this was his ringtone.
  "hello?"
   "hi, are they gone?"
   "yeah"
"give me five minutes am coming up".
You know the usual helter skelter run to arrange your rooms? I did that to get my place into some sort of order. I had to clean up the mess the girls and i made and true to his words my doorbell rang in a few minutes.
I opened the door and he immediately dragged me into his arms and kissed me like a man starved. I don't know how long we stood at the door, the kiss was that hot and we probably would have taken it further if not for a gasp that somehow brought me out of my daze, and right there behind him with tears running down her face stood Ada.
****************
I met him at a conference in port harcourt, we were both managers of GTB and the bank sent me as a representative from lagos, we hit it off instantly attracted to each other. The week i spent there was magical but as we all know all good things must come to an end. I went back to lagos. We were both too busy to maintain a long distance relationship so gradually we lost touch.
Ada was posted to work at the airtel head office in portharcourt and somehow their paths crossed. How was i supposed to know that her amazing Felix was my Sexy Felix? I was the happiest person on earth when she called to tell me she was engaged while Tolu was more skeptical. She felt that she didn't know him well enough but then how well can you know anyone?
****************
After six months of engagement he was transfered to lagos and given the office next to me, imagine my excitement then imagine my disappointment when we met up with Ada who came in for just a week that evening and i found out that the exalted fiance was my Felix. I excused my self, wished her well and drove home to cry my heart out.
From that day, i tried to avoid him but my job and Ada didn't make it easy. We were constantly drawn to each other and put in situations where it gradually became useless trying to fight temptation. Tolu sensed something and tried to talk to me, she was too perceptive so i began to avoid her too, it was my cross to bear and i couldn't stand anyone pitying me.
******************
You have to understand something about my feelings for Felix.. I never believed in love and i have never had much faith in men but Felix got me totally, he was someone i didnt have to say much to for him to understand what i meant combined with his dark looks, red lips, 6foot something height, dimples and contagious smile. Which lady in her right mind could possibly resist?
It took about 4 months of closely working together before temptation got the upper hand. It was valentine's day and Ada wasn't able to make it into lag. He was alone and so was i, Tolu was with her hubby and two kids, we decided to watch a movie at the galleria..we didnt want to go home to empty apartments or that was the excuse we gave each other. From the movies we had dinner and shared a bottle of south African red wine. He drove me home and i invited him in.
*****************
We kept saying we should stop but we never did even when Ada came back to lagos and began planning the wedding..he kept saying he would tell her but he never did and then it was too late, she was pregnant. He apologised for 2weeks and because of the elaborate gifts my friends got to suspect that there was someone in my life. They pleaded with me to forgive him that it was obvious he loved me and i thought if only they knew.
I wished now that it had stopped there, that we had never resumed this torrid affair, he was like a drug..and i, the addict. This was how i watched fifteen years of friendship turn around and run down the stairs while the man of my dreams chase after her.

SNAKES

My first sighting of this scaly creature was on my way to class in secondary school. I was a boarder and it was pretty dead (and no I did not poke it with a stick), nature had began to run its course. The school was built with lots of bushes to spare (mosquitoes and the occasional rumored bush baby).
The second time, was during a debate with my friends just outside the locked gates of our hostel, we sat under the sun near a sand pit and some shrubs and argued on who's mom was the strictest. Just as I was telling them about how my mum would not care if I was scared of any thing even a snake that she expected me to not leave my bag behind no matter what.. I looked to my side (as I gesticulated) and right there was a snake as grey as my school bag. I need not tell you how we fled screaming, "snake!" "Snake!" Right into our seniors hostel Or how I left my school bag behind (I never even looked back at my bag).
The seniors took us back to kill it but it was gone and all we saw was my bag mocking me. Since there was many more where that one came out from that wasn't the last time and I knew not to underestimate the power of their presence in a girls' hostel in the middle of the night when there was no light. O.o
Well, this trip down memory lane was triggered by my neighbors false alarm just now which woke up the other neighbors baby(deep sigh). Long after every one had settled I couldn't fall back asleep so decided to put my time to good use.
